I also just had this problem today. I've had it a few times in the past. Very frustrating since I do most of my work in vms. Those don't seem to be impacted, but OSX's Finder is unusable without a restart. Haven't found a way to simply kill off the Endpoint processes. Forced to reboot. I haven't spent much time debugging this since I have other work to do, but my hunch is that Endpoint is having issues 'phoning home'.
Would really like to find a solution other than rebooting OSX. Edit: I spent a little more time looking at this and found that if you attempt to kill the scep_ctl process you end up in the ' Connot connect to /tmp/scep.sock' state. Kill off the other scep_ processes like scep_dameon does not fix the issue. I have not found a way to kill or reboot Endpoint without rebooting my laptop, but maybe this will help someone else. @PA Bear can you provide a link to the 'Windows only' policy you are referring to?
